Lead BI Developer

Dublin, Ireland

About the Company:

Our client is one of the world’s largest reinsurance providers to over 40 million clients in over 30 countries. They are the market leader in providing new business processing and underwriting automation solutions to the life insurance industry.

The Team:

The Lead BI Developer role is based in the Automation Solutions division of the company. They deliver exceptional solution-based expertise that enables straight through processing (STP), increases sales and reduces costs for life insurers worldwide.

The Role:

You will be leading development activities for the Business Analytics team within a new Data group, which provides industry-leading Tableau-based analytics products to our client's global customer base.

You will be overseeing and implementing all stages of the product development process – analysing and preparing data, requirements analysis, data source design and implementation, dashboard development, product delivery and product automation initiatives. The successful candidate will be working with a range of stakeholders across the data, engineering, architecture and regional customer-facing (i.e. business analysts and solution architects) groups, with the ultimate aim of delivering cutting-edge analytics solutions to our customers.

You do not necessarily need to be coming from a development lead role - our client is open to a driven individual looking to take that step up in that career, as well as candidates already in a lead role. Additionally, while their current analytics suite is built using Tableau, Power BI is also a strategic target platform for the company. As such they are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about skilling up on an additional analytics platform over time, utilizing our client's learning and development resources.

  • Coordinate development activities for a small team of BI developers
  • Lead the development of business analytics software, providing technical leadership and guidance to the team
  • Collaborate with solution architects, business analysts and product owners to develop business and technical requirements and designs, in order to deliver high-quality product and customer solutions
  • Design, develop, and deliver analytics products that unlock value for clients through creative Tableau dashboards and useful data sources
  • Ensure a great user experience by designing efficient/performant workbooks, dashboards and data sources, and applying visual analytics best practices
  • Engage with stakeholders across the company in order to deliver high-quality analytics releases to customers
  • Build automation infrastructure and tools to streamline development, deployment and release processes
  • Work with cloud architects and DevOps engineers to plan and implement cloud-native infrastructure and technology for our client's analytics software
  • Deploy and manage Tableau Server instances, ensuring environments are optimized for performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with other development teams to understand and improve ETL/data transfer processes and data warehouse designs
  • Use SQL to shape and transform data as required to implement business requirements
  • Define and implement analytics software development best practices
  • Assist with support activities for our client's global customer base

Core Experience:

  • 3rd-level degree or above in computer science, engineering, or another relevant numerically based field
  • At least 5 years’ experience working within a software development environment
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with Tableau
  • Strong experience delivering high quality Tableau dashboards, and designing and building Tableau data sources
  • Tableau Server experience – deployment, architecture, administration, monitoring
  • Strong SQL coding experience
  • Database application experience/administration experience (primarily SQL Server and/or MySQL)
  • Knowledge of data warehouse design (star/snowflake schemas) and data modelling
  • Experience working with (and ideally developing) ETL processes
  • Scripting and automation skills, preferably in Python
  • Cloud development, architecture and deployment experience on AWS or Azure
  • Extensive general knowledge of software development practices and processes
  • Excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proven track record of project/product delivery, ideally in an agile environment

Bonus Experience:

  • Power BI experience
  • Tableau REST API/Tableau Server Client experience
  • XML parsing/manipulation experience
