Our client, a pioneering aerospace firm leading the charge in space exploration technology, are hiring a Director of Spacecraft Platform to spearhead the design and deployment of spacecraft platforms. The successful candidate will guide the development, design and implementation of spacecraft platforms, with the opportunity to significantly influence the trajectory of space exploration.

Responsibilities:

  • As the Director of Spacecraft Platform, you will lead and supervise a team of engineers, offering coaching, mentoring and opportunities for professional development.

  • You will oversee the mechanical design process of satellite structures, ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry standards.

  • Perform structural and thermal analyses to optimize designs for various space environments.

  • Take charge of Requirements Definition, Prototyping and Qualification Testing for the platform.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate mechanical systems with other satellite subsystems.

  • Oversee the prototyping and testing phases of mechanical components and systems, analyzing outcomes and making necessary design modifications.

  • Effectively manage relationships with third-party vendors and contractors, ensuring clear and precise definition of Statements of Work (SOWs).

  • Collaborate with supply chain managers to identify and mitigate potential risks within the supply chain.

Skillset:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.

  • A minimum of seven years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and analysis of satellites, preferably within the aerospace sector.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management principles, including budgeting and timeline management.

  • Familiarity with ITAR/EAR regulations, DoD contracts and the ability to draft proposals.

  • Expertise in utilizing structural and thermal analysis software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, UX and Thermal Desktop.

  • In-depth knowledge of materials science and manufacturing techniques applicable to space-related applications.

  • Salary: $150k – $210k DOE
