Software Engineer (Senior)
Our client, a fast-growing AI FinTech company, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join their team in New York. The successful candidate will take end-to-end ownership of a core area of the finance platform, working directly with accountants, controllers, CFOs and customers to understand complex financial workflows and translate them into reliable, production-ready software.
Responsibilities

Design and develop trusted AI agents for finance and audit workflows, with robust verification, guardrails, observability and evaluation built in.

Engineer context systems that enable AI agents to reason across transactions, ledgers, contracts, policies and historical financial decisions.

Build data infrastructure to ingest, normalize, reconcile, and connect information across ERPs, banking, payroll, billing, CRM and other enterprise platforms.

Develop AI agents capable of explaining their reasoning, recognizing uncertainty, escalating exceptions and improving through human feedback.

Build reliable, long-running AI workflows that operate safely across complex, stateful and interconnected enterprise systems.

Create secure, idempotent and auditable mechanisms for writing AI-generated actions back into financial systems of record.

Take end-to-end ownership across the LLM stack, backend services, infrastructure, data and product experience.

Partner directly with finance professionals to understand complex manual processes and transform them into scalable, automated software.

Leverage modern AI coding agents and development tools to accelerate engineering, testing and delivery.

Own production reliability, diagnosing issues to root cause and continuously improving system performance, resilience and quality.
Skillset
-
Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily across backend, infrastructure, platform or distributed systems engineering.

Strong backend development skills in Python, Go, Java, Rust or a similar modern language, with the ability to ramp quickly in Python.

Proven experience designing and building complex production systems, such as distributed pipelines, transactional or ledger systems, integration platforms or workflow engines.

Strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, reliability, observability and production infrastructure.

Experience building production LLM applications or AI agents, ideally including evaluation, verification, guardrails or AI observability.

Experience integrating with enterprise systems and complex data sources, including financial platforms, data warehouses or reconciliation pipelines.

Experience within fintech, accounting, ERP, payments, banking, treasury, audit or compliance software is highly desirable.

Experience working in an early-stage startup environment and directly with customers or domain experts to turn complex business processes into scalable software is highly valued.
