Our client, an AI-driven SaaS startup, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join their team in New York. The successful candidate will tackle complex technical challenges in a true greenfield environment, playing a key role in shaping the company’s foundational infrastructure from day one, including ownership over architecture, tooling and their long-term technical direction.

Responsibilities

Architect and implement full-stack features for their AI-driven SaaS platform.
Design and build core backend systems, data models, APIs and infrastructure focused on scalability, performance and maintainability.
Translate business and product objectives into clear technical strategies, making impactful design decisions in ambiguous or evolving contexts.
Develop intuitive frontend experiences that present complex AI and contract insights in clear, actionable ways.
Partner closely with the Head of Engineering and product teams to define priorities and deliver exceptional outcomes.
Take full ownership of projects, from initial design and development through deployment, monitoring and iteration.
Champion engineering best practices and contribute to shaping a strong, collaborative technical culture as the team grows.

Skillset

At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record in system architecture and technical ownership.
Demonstrated ability to design and build complex backend systems or distributed services, ideally in greenfield environments.
Proficient in Node.js, Go or Python, and experienced with modern frontend frameworks such as React or TypeScript.
Skilled in cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Strong system design expertise with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and architect scalable distributed systems.
Hands-on experience developing agentic AI systems or LLM-powered applications is a bonus.
Background in legal tech or B2B SaaS is a plus.
Exceptional communication skills with ability to clearly articulate and defend architectural choices.
