MariaDB SME/Technical Architect

Our client, a data-driven IT Consulting organization, is hiring a MariaDB Subject Matter Expert/Technical Architect to join their team in Virginia on a contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, optimizing and supporting business-critical database environments, as well as ensuring the performance, reliability and availability of MariaDB platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimize MariaDB database environments to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Lead database architecture, installation, configuration, upgrades and ongoing operational support.

• Configure and manage replication solutions across multiple environments to deliver high availability and resilience.

• Monitor database performance and proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve performance issues and bottlenecks.

• Collaborate with ServiceNow administrators to maximize database efficiency and support application performance.

• Partner with business stakeholders and Business Analysts to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.

• Develop, maintain and test backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes to support business continuity objectives.

• Implement and maintain database security controls, compliance standards and governance best practices.

• Develop automation scripts and tools using Python and Bash to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.

• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, technical reviews, knowledge sharing and the promotion of engineering best practices.

Skillset

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.

• At least 3 years of experience working with MariaDB in a database engineering, administration or technical consulting capacity.

• Strong hands-on expertise with MariaDB, with MySQL experience is a big plus.

• In-depth knowledge of InnoDB internals, transaction processing and relational database architecture.

• Demonstrable experience performance tuning and optimising MariaDB databases within Linux and VMware environments.

• Proven experience designing and supporting high-availability database solutions, including replication, failover and scaling strategies.

• Experience implementing and managing backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions for critical database environments.

• Proficiency in automation and scripting using Python, Bash or similar technologies.

• Strong understanding of database security principles, compliance requirements and governance frameworks.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
