Our client, a fast-growing AI technology company is hiring a hands-on Director of Software Engineering to join the team in Cleveland, Ohio. The successful candidate will provide strategic and technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, from building high-performing teams, scaling complex software platforms, strengthening engineering practices, and delivering secure, reliable, enterprise-grade technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership across multiple software engineering teams.

  • Develop engineering roadmaps aligned with business objectives, product strategy and organizational growth.

  • Lead, mentor and develop Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers while building high-performing teams.

  • Oversee the delivery of complex software initiatives, ensuring quality, reliability and timely execution.

  • Establish engineering standards, architectural principles, coding practices and operational best practices.

  • Guide system architecture, scalability, platform modernisation and long-term technical strategy.

  • Ensure software solutions meet high standards for performance, security, reliability and availability.

  • Drive continuous improvement across Agile, DevOps, CI/CD and quality assurance practices.

  • Partner with Product, Data, Security, Infrastructure and other cross-functional teams to align priorities and delivery.

  • Communicate engineering strategy, performance, risks and priorities to senior and executive stakeholders.

Skillset

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar.

  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles.

  • Proven track record leading large, distributed or multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Strong expertise in modern software development, cloud architecture, DevOps and CI/CD practices.

  • Experience designing and delivering scalable enterprise software, microservices, APIs and distributed systems.

  • Demonstrated success delivering complex software products and platforms at scale.

  • Strong understanding of high-availability, secure, and resilient systems.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, alongside Kubernetes, containers and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management and strategic decision-making skills.

  • Experience managing engineering budgets, workforce planning and operational performance.

Benefits

  • Salary: $150k – $200k.

  • Performance Bonus.
