Senior Software Engineer, Vault

Our client, early-stage Fintech company in San Francisco, are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the team remotely. The successful candidate will become the founding engineer for the company’s Vault product, taking ownership of designing and building the systems that connect software with real-world operations, including the automation of asset intake, inventory management and more.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of the Vault technology platform, leading systems and features from architecture and technical design through development, deployment and user experience.

• Design and automate the physical asset intake workflow, covering receiving, scanning, inventory processing, exception management and quality control.

• Build and scale Vault-as-a-Service, including account infrastructure, billing and APIs that enable enterprise partners to programmatically store, manage and ship assets.

• Develop resilient partner integration infrastructure capable of handling malformed data, duplicate submissions, out-of-order events, retries and SLA failures.

• Build and enhance the asset imaging and digitization platform, including image capture, lighting workflows, automated validation and 360-degree digital representations.

• Apply computer vision and AI models to automate quality assurance and detect imaging, labelling and inventory discrepancies before they impact customers.

• Develop AI agents and operational automation to investigate exceptions, identify recurring issues, surface root causes and reduce manual intervention.

• Create scalable tooling and data infrastructure that enables the rapid introduction of new asset classes, including schema creation, information extraction and classification.

• Build MCP servers, AI integrations, and agent-based workflows that make Vault inventory, asset status and event history easier for teams to access and manage.

• Provide technical leadership as the Vault engineering team grows, contributing to architectural decisions, code reviews, engineering standards, documentation and mentorship.

Skillset

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of building, shipping and operating production-grade applications.

• Strong backend engineering skills using Python, PostgreSQL, AWS or comparable technologies.

• Strong frontend development experience with React, React Native, JavaScript and/or TypeScript.

• Proven ability to take end-to-end ownership of complex systems, from architecture and technical design through implementation, deployment and user experience.

• Experience designing and building APIs, third-party integrations, event-driven systems, workflow automation and internal operational tooling.

• Strong understanding of system reliability, scalability, SLAs, performance, failure handling and production operations.

• Hands-on experience with AI-enabled engineering and automation, ideally including AI agents, computer vision, MCP servers, connectors or production AI tooling.

• Experience solving engineering challenges that connect software with physical-world operations, such as logistics, fulfilment, imaging, inventory, shipping or asset management.

• Strong product and commercial mindset, with an understanding of how engineering decisions influence customer experience, operational performance and business outcomes.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment, making pragmatic technical decisions and moving quickly while maintaining high standards of reliability.
