Software Engineer (Senior)

Our client, an early-stage AI startup, are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the team in New York.  The successful candidate will own a critical part of the future accounting technology stack, working directly with customers to understand their challenges, design effective solutions and build systems that replace complex manual processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end development of a core finance domain and its supporting technology.

• Design reliable AI agents that finance teams and auditors can understand and trust.

• Develop verification, guardrail, monitoring and evaluation systems for nondeterministic AI.

• Build financial context across transactions, ledgers, contracts, policies and historical decisions.

• Integrate, standardize and reconcile data from ERPs, banks, payroll systems, billing platforms, CRMs and email.

• Create durable and replay-safe workflows across complex stateful enterprise systems.

• Develop secure and fully traceable write-back capabilities for financial systems.

• Work directly with customers to understand finance processes and translate them into production software.

• Contribute to technical decisions across LLM pipelines, infrastructure, backend systems and user experience.

• Use AI coding agents to accelerate development and deliver high-quality production systems.

Skillset

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on backend development or infrastructure.

• Strong programming experience with Python, Go, Java, Rust or another modern backend language.

• The ability to quickly become productive within a Python-based environment.

• Experience building complex backend systems including distributed pipelines, transactional platforms, ledger systems, integrations or workflow engines.

• Previous experience working within an early-stage startup from pre-seed through Series B.

• Ability to work directly with customers and translate operational challenges into scalable software.

• Experience within fintech, accounting, payments, banking, treasury, audit, ERP or compliance technology.

• Experience building production AI agents, evaluation frameworks, verification systems or AI observability platforms.

• Knowledge of data warehouses, financial systems and enterprise integrations.

• Strong system design, product judgment and problem-solving skills.
