Our client, a leading utilities organization, is hiring an experienced Controls Engineer to join the team in San Antonio. The successful candidate will help ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of power generation facilities by providing technical expertise across plant control systems, instrumentation, electrical equipment and operational processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical management of plant control systems, instrumentation, electrical equipment and operational processes.

  • Act as the main technical contact for customers, plant teams, technicians, contractors and internal stakeholders.

  • Monitor plant performance and respond to power outages, control system faults, equipment failures and other operational issues.

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate corrective actions to restore safe and reliable operations.

  • Complete root cause investigations and develop incident reports, corrective action plans and reliability improvements.

  • Support equipment inspections, testing, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance and lifecycle planning.

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams throughout plant commissioning, deployment, maintenance and ongoing operations.

  • Review operational data, equipment performance and reliability trends to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure operations comply with company policies, customer expectations, safety procedures, regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Maintain accurate technical procedures, operational reports, maintenance records, investigation findings and compliance documentation.

Skillset

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in controls engineering, power generation, plant engineering or industrial operations.

  • Strong technical knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, electrical systems, mechanical equipment and plant operations.

  • Proven ability to diagnose complex technical issues and deliver practical, long-term solutions.

  • Experience completing root cause investigations and implementing corrective and preventive measures.

  • Good knowledge of industrial safety standards, regulatory requirements and operational risk management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet operational deadlines.

  • Flexibility to provide rotational and emergency support when required.

  • Willingness to travel to company facilities and customer sites.
