,  | March 6 2023 | JP Valentine

Welcome to episode 426 of the AI in Action podcast, the show where we break down the hype and explore the impact that Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are making on our everyday lives.

Powered by Alldus International, our goal is to share with you the insights of technologists and data science enthusiasts to showcase the excellent work that is being done within AI in North America and Europe.

Today’s guest is Peyton Greenside, Founder and CSO at BigHat Biosciences in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 2019, BigHat Biosciences is designing safer, more effective antibody therapies for patients using machine learning and synthetic biology. BigHat integrates a wet lab for high-speed characterization with machine learning technologies to guide the search for better antibodies. They are applying these design capabilities to develop new generations of safer and more effective treatments for patients suffering from today’s most challenging diseases.

A pioneer of deep learning applied to life science problems, Peyton has developed computational, statistical, and AI/ML techniques to model, understand, and optimize biological sequences in academia and industry. Peyton was an inaugural Schmidt Science Fellow, a computational biologist at the Broad Institute and a scientific founder of Valis. She also holds a PhD from Stanford University (Accel Innovation Scholar), an MPhil in Computational Biology from Cambridge University (Herchel Smith Scholar), and a BA in Applied Math from Harvard.

In the episode, Peyton will discuss:

The motivation for founding BigHat Biosciences

Their success over the past 12 months

Challenges they need to overcome in data management and automation

What the future holds for the organization

Why BigHat Biosciences is a great place to work
